EB-2 Visa Cap Reached for FY 2025

  • On September 9, 2025, the State Department announced it had issued all EB-2 visas for fiscal year (FY) 2025 and will resume consular processing when the FY 2026 cap resets on October 1, 2025

Annual EB-2 Cap Reached 

On September 9, 2025, the State Department confirmed that all employment-based second preference (EB-2) immigrant visas available for FY 2025 have been issued. This category includes professionals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability seeking permanent residence through employment sponsorship. 

What’s Next 

  • Embassies and consulates will not issue additional EB-2 visas until the new fiscal year begins on October 1, 2025. 
  • USCIS may continue to accept adjustment of status (AOS) filings if the applicant’s EB-2 priority date remains current under the Visa Bulletin, even though the annual cap has been reached. 
  • Applicants awaiting consular processing may experience delays until new visa numbers become available.
