DHS Revokes Romania’s Visa Waiver Program Status
Welcome to the U.S. immigration news briefing from Corporate Immigration Partners, PC (CIP PC). The team is here to provide the latest updates on policy changes affecting corporate immigration. This blog covers the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to revoke Romania’s Visa Waiver Program status following a review, highlighting the importance of maintaining program integrity and reinforcing border security measures.
U.S. Rescinds Romania’s Visa Waiver Program Designation
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in consultation with the Department of State, announced the immediate rescission of Romania’s Visa Waiver Program (VWP) status following a review of its designation, which had been paused since March 25, 2025.
Initially granted VWP status on January 9, 2025, Romania underwent further evaluation, leading to the decision to revoke its designation. The move aims to uphold program integrity and strengthen border security. Romanian nationals seeking to enter the U.S. for business or tourism must obtain a B-1/B-2 visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
Further updates on Romania’s VWP status may be provided as DHS continues to assess immigration and security priorities.
