Canada Updates Express Entry Medical Exam Requirements
Key Point
- Canada announced that Express Entry applicants must now complete an upfront medical exam before submitting their permanent residence application
Express Entry: Upfront Immigration Medical Exam Now Required
Starting August 21, 2025, Canada will require Express Entry applicants and their family members to complete an upfront Immigration Medical Exam (IME) and upload proof in the Express Entry Profile Builder when submitting their permanent residence application. This replaces the previous process of waiting for instructions after applying.
Here’s what applicants should do based on their situation:
- Applicants in Canada with a previous IME (within the last five years): Include your IME number or unique medical identifier when submitting your application. If IRCC cannot reuse an applicant’s previous results, it will provide instructions after the submission.
- Applicants who have never completed an IME should contact a panel physician to complete the exam and upload proof when submitting their application. Applicants should only complete the exam after receiving an invitation to apply.
This update is intended to streamline the application process and reduce delays by ensuring medical requirements are met earlier in the permanent residence pathway.
