Canada New Citizenship Rules Now in Effect

  • Canada has implemented new citizenship rules under Bill C‑3, impacting Canadians born or adopted abroad as of December 12, 2025 

Citizenship Act Amendments 

Canada has amended the Citizenship Act through Bill C‑3, which is now in force. The changes restore citizenship rights to Canadians born or adopted abroad who previously faced restrictions under the “first‑generation limit.” The new rules expand eligibility for citizenship transmission to children of Canadian citizens, regardless of whether the parent was born in Canada or abroad.
