Overview  

The Canadian government expanded the global human rights defenders (HRDs) stream on 26 July 2023. The expansion doubles resettlement spaces under the program from 250 to 500 HRDs and their family members.

Canada expanded the global HRDs stream by an additional 250 slots on 26 July 2023. The government’s initiative aims to demonstrate the belief that no person should face prosecution for championing justice.
