Bermuda Reinforces Immigration Penalties for Non‑Compliance

Bermuda Issues Reminder on Work Permit Enforcement 

On 17 November 2025, Bermuda issued a public reminder about the penalties for breaching immigration laws and work permit conditions. The notice emphasizes the importance of compliance for individuals, employers and work permit holders. Key changes include the following:  

Work without a permit: 

  • Individuals who work without authorization face civil penalties.
  • They must pay these penalties before authorities will consider a new work permit application.
  • Immigration officials can require the individual to leave Bermuda.
  • After departure, authorities will not consider a new work permit for at least 12 months.

Employer obligations: 

  • Employers must ensure all foreign workers hold valid permits. 
  • Breaches can result in civil penalties. 
  • Non‑compliance may delay or block future immigration applications.
