Austria Updates Income Thresholds for Residence Permit Applicants
Key Points
- Austria announced revised minimum income requirements for residence permits, effective January 2025
Income Requirement for Residence
Austria requires residence permit applicants to demonstrate a fixed and regular personal income sufficient to cover living costs without relying on welfare support.
As of January 1, 2025, monthly income must meet or exceed the Equalisation Supplement Reference Rate (Ausgleichszulagenrichtsatz) under the General Social Insurance Act (ASVG):
- Singles: €1,273.99
- Couples: €2,009.85
- Each child: +€196.57
Austria clarifies that only income available at the time of application is considered—entitlements to future welfare payments or supplements do not count toward meeting this threshold.
