United Kingdom Updates eVisa Access for Select Visa Holders
Key Point
- UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has expanded access to its digital immigration system (eVisa) for additional visa holders
eVisa Services in the United Kingdom
The UK Home Office has announced an expansion of its digital immigration system, allowing additional visa holders to access their immigration status online via a UKVI account.
Who’s Affected
Individuals who previously received:
- A Form for Affixing a Visa (FAV)
- A visa extension without a valid identity document (e.g., an expired passport or biometric residence permit)
These groups are now eligible to create a UKVI account and view their eVisa online.
Background
The UK is transitioning to a fully digital immigration system. eVisas replace physical documents and allow individuals to prove their immigration status electronically. UKVI continues to phase out physical documents such as biometric residence permits (BRPs), which expired on 31 December 2024.
Key Benefits of eVisa Access
- Secure, tamper-proof digital status
- No risk of loss or theft
- Streamlined status sharing with employers, landlords, and government agencies
- Faster border clearance
Looking Ahead
UKVI will continue expanding eVisa access before full digitization. Employers should prepare for broader adoption and ensure systems are ready to support digital status checks.
