The United Kingdom Launches Travel Campaign Ahead of EU Border Overhaul
Key Point
- United Kingdom launches campaign to prepare citizens for upcoming EU border changes
EU Entry/Exit System Rollout
The United Kingdom has initiated a public awareness campaign ahead of the European Union’s implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will begin on 12 October 2025. The EES will require British and other non-EU travelers entering Schengen countries to register biometric data, fingerprints and photographs at the border, replacing traditional passport stamping.
Authorities will validate each registration for three years or until the traveler’s passport expires. They will phase in the system over six months, applying different requirements across ports until April 2026. Officials will conduct pre-departure checks on travelers using juxtaposed UK ports such as Dover, Folkestone and St Pancras.
The UK government has allocated £10.5 million to support infrastructure upgrades at these locations and is working closely with transport operators to minimize disruption.
