Nigeria Implements E-Visa System and Digital Entry Cards
Key Point
- Nigeria has introduced an online e-visa system and automated landing and exit cards, replacing visa-on-arrival and manual entry procedures
Visa and Entry System Updates
Effective 1 May 2025, Nigeria launched a fully digital visa application process, requiring travelers to apply online for short-stay visas (30–90 days). Visa-on-arrival has been discontinued, though previously issued visas remain valid until 30 May 2025. The e-visa system expands short-stay visa categories and provides approval within 48 hours, with documents sent electronically.
Additionally, manual embarkation and disembarkation cards have been replaced by automated landing and exit cards. Non-Nigerians and dual citizens must obtain their entry or departure cards online 72 hours before travel.
The government will offer a grace period from 1 May to 1 August 2025, allowing those with expired visas to depart without penalties. However, the implementation date for overstay penalties requires clarification.
