New DS-160 Rule: Visa Applicants Must Submit Form Earlier

DS-160 Submission Process Update

The U.S. Department of State has recently updated its DS-160 submission policy, requiring applicants to submit the form at least 48 working hours before a visa interview. This change ensures consular officers have time to review submitted information and complete security vetting before the interview.

Key Points About the New DS-160 Policy

  • Mandatory 48-Hour Window: Applicants must submit the DS-160 at least two full business days before the visa interview date.
  • Applies to Most Nonimmigrant Visas: This includes B-1/B-2 (tourist/business), F-1 (student), H-1B (work) and other temporary visas.
  • Weekend & Holiday Considerations: The 48-hour rule applies only to business days, meaning weekends and U.S. federal holidays do not count toward the waiting period.
  • Avoid Scheduling Errors: Attending an interview before the 48-hour window has passed may result in processing issues or appointment failures.
