Netherlands Extends EU Temporarily Protection for Ukrainian Refugees
Key Points
- The Netherlands will allow Ukrainian refugees to remain in the country until March 2027 under extended EU protective measures
Temporary Protective Status for Ukrainian Nationals
The Netherlands confirms that Ukrainian refugees can remain in EU Member States under the Temporary Protection Directive until 4 March 2027 without needing to apply for asylum. This change guarantees continued access to residence, work, education and public services.
The Netherlands is also preparing for the end of EU Temporary Protection for Ukrainian refugees on 4 March 2027, with plans to support voluntary return and explore new residence options.
A government-backed return programme will offer training and assistance linked to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
For those unable to return immediately, the Netherlands is considering a transition document to provide temporary residence after protection ends.
