Japan Updates Business Manager Visa Requirements
Key Point
- Japan’s updated Business Manager visa rules, effective 16 October 2025, require active management and a physical office
Business Manager Visa Changes
On 10 October 2025, Japan published revised requirements for Business Manager visa applications. These changes will take effect on 16 October 2025 and are designed to reinforce the integrity of the visa category by ensuring applicants are actively engaged in legitimate business operations within Japan.
Key Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must now demonstrate direct involvement in the management of a business. This includes participation in decision-making, execution of business strategies, or oversight of operations. A physical office location is now a mandatory requirement, and applicants must provide documentation confirming the business’s operational presence.
Joint Management Applications
In cases where multiple individuals apply under joint management, each applicant must clearly define their specific role and responsibilities. Supporting documentation should reflect the scale of the business and the distinct contributions of each applicant.
Required Documentation and Forms
The ISA has released updated forms and a comprehensive checklist of required documents to support the new application procedures.
