Hong Kong to Relax e‑Channel Eligibility for Frequent Visitors
Key Point
- Hong Kong’s Immigration Department will expand eligibility for its self‑service immigration clearance system (e‑Channel) and simplify the enrollment process.
e-Channel Access for Hong Kong
As of 27 February 2026, the authorities of Hong Kong expanded e-Channel access to more frequent visitors. These measures were introduced to improve clearance efficiency and make travel more convenient.
Expanded Eligibility
Eligible travelers can enroll if they:
- Hold a valid travel document
- Hold a multiple‑visit visa, if required
- Have entered Hong Kong at least twice in the past 24 months
Simplified Enrolment Process
For visitors, electronic travel documents must be provided:
- Presenting the valid travel document used for entry
- Having a photo taken
- Signing a consent form
Additionally, authorities no longer require these applicants to provide fingerprints.
Visitors with non‑electronic travel documents will continue to follow the existing fingerprint‑based enrollment process.
How e‑Channel Clearance Works
- Upon arrival, visitors place their travel documents on the document reader.
- Those with electronic travel documents complete clearance through facial recognition.
- Those with non‑electronic travel documents use fingerprint verification.
