Overview  

Starting in 2025, Hong Kong will phase out old smart identity cards, requiring residents to upgrade to a new version. 

Cards for those born in or after 1970 will expire on 12 May 2025, while those for individuals born in or before 1969 will be invalid on 12 October 2025. Affected residents should replace their ID cards promptly by booking an appointment online or using self-service kiosks at Immigration Headquarters.
