European Union 2025 Rollout of the Entry Exit System
Key Points
- EU sets 12 October 2025 as the launch date for its Entry/Exit System, marking a major shift in border management for non-EU travelers
Entry/Exit System Rollout
The European Union (EU) will begin implementing its new Entry/Exit System (EES) on 12 October 2025, gradually rolling it out over six months across 29 countries, including Schengen Associated States.
The EES will digitally record the entry and exit of non-EU nationals on short stays, replacing passport stamps with biometric data collection such as fingerprints and facial images. This system aims to enhance border security, detect overstayers, reduce identity fraud and streamline travel through automated checks.
The EU will launch public awareness campaigns to help travelers and border authorities adjust to the new procedures, with full deployment expected by April 2026.
