Brazil Reinstates Visitor Visa Requirements for U.S., Canada and Australia
Key Points
- Brazil reinstated visitor visa requirements for U.S., Canadian and Australian nationals on 10 April 2025, requiring them to apply for an eVisa before entry
Visa-Free Travel to Brazil Ends for U.S., Canada and Australia
Brazil reinstated its visitor visa requirements for the United States, Australia and Canada on 10 April 2025. This decision ended six years of visa-free travel for these countries.
The decision was based on the principle of reciprocity, as Brazilian citizens are required to obtain visas to enter these nations. Visitors can apply for an Electronic Visa (eVisa) through Brazil’s official eVisa system, which streamlines the application process.
The visa allows for stays of up to 90 days per year and covers purposes such as tourism, business, sports activities, artistic performances and airport transit. Brazilian citizens must travel with a Brazilian passport regardless of the exemption period.
