Canada: Nova Scotia Foreign Credential Recognition Program

Key Points

  • Canada provided Nova Scotia with additional funding to better recognize foreign credentials in specific occupations

Overview

The government of Canada recognizes the NICHE project, which received up to $10 million from the Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Program. This project will strengthen Nova Scotia’s International Community of Healthcare Workers Engagement Program by helping approximately 370 internationally trained health professionals gain work experience and overcome credential recognition barriers in five key professions: licensed practical nurses, medical lab technologists, medical radiation technologists, pharmacists and respiratory therapists. This support aligns with the government’s commitment to address workforce challenges and speed up the process for internationally trained professionals to join Canada’s health sector.
