Immigration News Alert

South Africa: Temporary Extension of Stay Period

Key Points

  • South Africa introduced temporary extensions of stay for visa holders with applications currently pending

Overview

The government of South Africa will introduce temporary extensions to allow the government additional time for processing visa applications, waiver applications and appeal applications currently in backlog.

As a result, foreign nationals with pending applications since November 2023 are granted an extension until 30 June 2024.

Alternatively, applicants will have the option to abandon their current application, depart and re-enter the country. However, visa-required nationals must apply for a visa prior to seeking re-entry into the country.

Short-term visa holders who applied for a visa renewal by 30 November 2023 and who have not received a visa renewal outcome by 24 February 2024 are required to depart by 29 February 2024.
