Hong Kong Expands e-Channel Access for PRC Passport Holders
Key Point
- Hong Kong extended its Automated Immigration Clearance service to eligible holders of People’s Republic of China electronic passports transiting through the city
Immigration Clearance Update
Effective 26 June 2025, Hong Kong expanded access to its e-Channel service for PRC passport holders who meet the following criteria:
- Aged 11 or above
- Holding a valid PRC electronic ordinary passport
- Transiting through Hong Kong to or from another country or territory
Eligible travelers can now use the e-Channel system for self-service immigration clearance without prior enrollment. The system utilizes facial recognition technology to facilitate faster and more efficient entry procedures.
This update does not apply to PRC passport holders entering Hong Kong with an “Entry Permit for Hong Kong” issued by overseas Chinese diplomatic or consular missions. Those individuals must continue to complete arrival clearance at traditional immigration counters.
