USCIS to Exempt I-539 Applicants from Biometrics Fee
Starting Oct. 1, 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will exempt I-539 applicants from a biometrics service fee.
In most cases, applicants will no longer have to pay the $85 biometrics service fee if their I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status is postmarked on or after Oct. 1. However, USCIS may determine that some applicants still need to make a biometrics appointment. Those applicants will be contacted with further information.
Applicants whose I-539 application is postmarked prior to Oct. 1 must still attend a previously scheduled biometrics appointment, if applicable.
