Survey Forecasts STEM Recruiting Troubles to Continue in 2017

Good News: Jobvite’s recently published Recruiter Nation Report 2016 indicates a healthy labor market as 69 percent of recruiters said their company’s hiring increased in the past year. The troubling bit? Ninety-five percent expect bringing in top talent in 2017 to be as or more difficult than the previous year.

HR takeaway: Pay close attention to recruiting efforts of competitors of all sizes. Not only can you learn from their strong areas, but you can take advantage of weaknesses such as poor candidate sourcing tactics and inadequate benefit packages.

2. Sixty percent of recruiters in technology and health care say salary negotiation is now the norm.

HR takeaway: It’s a job seeker’s market. Expect employees at all levels to negotiate salary terms as candidates are becoming more confident discussing pay. According to Jobvite, salary negotiation has paid off, as 68 percent of companies have raised their average offers in the last year — especially in hospitality (83 percent), software (73 percent) and telecommunications (80 percent).

3. Recruiters have shifted their focus to growing talent pipelines and quality of new hires.
