Mapping Year-Over-Year Trends in Global Immigration
More than 440 employers across the United States have spoken in our second annual Envoy Immigration Trends 2017 survey, and the response is clear yet again: it’s crucial for them to be able to acquire, develop and retain global talent — maybe even more so than last year. Many of our results reflect a significant increase from our 2016 report. Here are a few of our year-over-year highlights:
- Fifty-five percent of employers expect their foreign national headcount to increase during the next year, marking a 21 percentage-point increase from last year’s survey.
- Fifty-six percent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields say they expect their foreign national headcount to increase, compared to merely 32 percent in last year’s report.
- Sixty-three percent of employers say sourcing foreign national employees is extremely or very important to their companies’ talent acquisition strategy, up significantly from 42 percent year over year.
- Ninety-one percent of employers believe sourcing foreign national employees is important to their company’s talent acquisition strategy, a 5 percentage-point increase from our 2016 report.
- More than seven in 10 employers (71 percent) sponsored a foreign national for a green card, an 8 percentage-point increase from last year’s report.
- Similar to last year’s report, more than one-third of employers (36 percent) start the green card application process after one year of service.
